Obsidian is my go-to note editor. With the community Git plugin I can quickly version posts and keep them in sync with the repository that powers this site.
Why use the Git plugin?
Using Git inside Obsidian means I can commit changes without leaving the editor. It also provides a history of my notes and posts so nothing gets lost.
Installation
- Open Settings → Community Plugins.
- Turn on community plugins and search for Obsidian Git.
- Install and enable the plugin.
Basic workflow
- After editing a note, open the command palette and run Obsidian Git: commit.
- Provide a short commit message when prompted.
- Use Obsidian Git: push to send changes to the remote repository.
With this setup I can draft posts locally, commit them in Obsidian, and publish them with a regular Git push.
TODOs
- Create a template for new Markdown files in Obsidian with the front matter above.
